Rock & roll photographer
San Francisco - USA
Jay Blakesberg is a San Francisco-based photographer and filmmaker who regularly contributes music photography to Rolling Stone, Guitar Player, Relix and many other magazines.
Jay's suburban youth was spent mostly in Clark, New Jersey, where he first discovered a passion for taking pictures. As a young teenager, Blakesberg began taking his father's Pentax camera to local concerts.
The early 1980s found Blakesberg living in Olympia, Washington, where he attended the Evergreen State College. More intensive study and focus on photography, and filmmaking led him to an internship doing corporate photography and video in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid-1980s. This is when Blakesberg started bringing his camera to every musical event he attended.
He has photographed many musical artists, including the Grateful Dead, B.B. King, Phish, Radiohead, Tom Petty, Ben Harper, The Rolling Stones, Tom Waits, Neil Young and Carlos Santana to name just a few. His photography has been included in more than 200 CD packages, 100’s of magazines worldwide, and he has published thirteen coffee table books of his music photography.
