The manufacturing plant is an environmentally considerate facility that uses a low energy process for curing the Unisub coatings. Plastic drinking water bottles and aluminum cans are recycled. Aluminum and steel are recycled on-site as well as any plain paper. Low energy use light bulbs are in place as well as a program of unplugging or shutting down any unneeded equipment when possible.
REACH (Europe) Information: Unisub articles in formal use have no chemical emissions for REACH consideration. Now Unisub products are REACH exempt.

Green Circle certified.

The Material can be recycled.
Our aluminum supplier is GreenCircle Certified: GreenCircle certifies environmental claims of products to prevent unfair or deceptive claims in the marketplace; our aluminum supplier has been audited by a 3rd party organization to confirm their recyclable claims.
Aluminum that we purchase is both created by pre- and post-consumer recycled material and is recyclable. This is important because the material is diverted from the waste stream through the recycling infrastructure and can be used for other products.

We purchase our Hardboard material from a supplier that is committed to ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP. 100% of the hardboard material we purchase is manufactured with FSC certified raw material. Our supplier has been fully audited. Formaldehyde-free manufacturing means our hardboard panels will not adversely affect your indoor air. The mold-resistant formulation has been built into the substrate to fend off typical stains. Our supplier foresters and logging contractors are dedicated to conservation, prompt reforestation and the protection of wildlife, plants, soil, air, and water quality. STATEMENT OF FORESTRY RESPONSIBILITY: Raw material from managed forests.

MDF products are purchased through a mill that is part of the COMPOSITE PANEL ASSOCIATION ECO-CERTIFIED COMPOSITE GRADEMARK PROGRAM (GM PROGRAM). The GM Program requires the mill to periodically be tested to confirm compliance and requires that a mill’s quality control system meet strict criteria for personnel, procedures, and facilities. This is a voluntary standard and is the optimal use of forestry byproducts and residuals – turning recycled and reclaimed material into higher value products it’s not wasted. The composite wood panels we purchase from our vendor are among the greenest products available; only products carrying the ECC-certified logo are produced in a manufacturing plant or facility that is audited and certified by CPA.

The standard focuses on life cycle inventory and other verifiable environmental practices and highlights the responsible use of wood fiber by composite panel manufacturers.

  • Recycle all cardboard.
  • Recycle all steel strapping.
  • Recycle all used steel, copper wire, and aluminum from our maintenance activities/projects.
  • Recycle all aluminum scrap.
  • Recycle all paper products from the office.
  • Recycle all used oils from maintenance.
  • Recycle all water bottles and aluminum cans that are placed in the proper containers.
  • Dust from the dust collectors is used for “solidification” of liquid waste instead of adding to the municipal dump.

CARB (California Air Resource Board) was established to limit the emission of formaldehyde from products. It set emission limits from these products and developed a chain-of-custody tracking system to ensure compliance. For Universal Woods, this means our hardboard products neither contain nor emit formaldehyde and our MDF products have clean content with minimally added formaldehyde. CARB has granted us an exemption from their rule and have issued us an exemption number and no chain-of-custody is necessary when using or reselling our products.
